History

NDI was founded in 1990 to provide substance abuse testing and program management services to employers required to implement substance abuse testing under the Federal Department of Transportation's 1989 Controlled Substances Testing regulations.

Initially, services were provided to an established client based served by affiliated, but independently operated occupational health care clinics.

NDI has rapidly evolved into an innovative global service provider specializing in substance abuse testing, physical examination and provider network management (medical surveillance) and background investigations. Throughout the years, NDI has been an industry pioneer:

  • First company to recognize the need to integrate legal, medical and technology specialties together to provide the foundation for legally defensible employee screening programs
  • Developed a national network of vendors which optimize quality control and enhanced integration of all services from test reporting through consolidated billing
  • Introduced a web-based environment to communicate with clients, physicians, clinics, labs and more to ensure timely data sharing.
  • Developed and installed software at client sites enabling client to receive and manage data electronically, which was the predecessor to NDI's current state-of-the art electronic workplace
  • Recognizing the need for data security, NDI was the first provider to implement limits on the information transmitted at every step in the employee screening process.

"NDI helped us implement a DOT regulated drug screening program which led to a significant drop in "on the road incidents." We then added drug screening programs in the non-DOT regulated part of our business to reduce accidents and workers compensation claims and expenses. In total, we've become safer and more profitable."
